Max Miller is the creator and host of the hit YouTube series Tasting History with Max Miller, in which he recreates dishes from the past while uncovering the people, cultures and events behind them.
What began as a passion project during the pandemic has grown into one of YouTube’s most popular history and food series, attracting more than 4.42 million subscribers and over 938 million views. In recognition of his influence as a digital storyteller, TIME named Max to its second annual TIME100 Creators list in 2026, honoring 100 of the world’s most influential digital voices.
Max brought his distinctive combination of food, history and humor to the page with his first book, Tasting History: Explore the Past Through 4,000 Years of Recipes. Published by Simon Element, an imprint of Simon & Schuster, in April 2023, the book became a New York Times bestseller and was the number-one-selling book on Amazon during the week of August 21, 2023.
He continues that exploration in his second book, A Recipe for Disaster, which will be released in spring 2027. Centered on foods connected to famous natural disasters, human-made catastrophes and historical conflicts, the book examines how food can offer an unexpected and revealing perspective on some of history’s most consequential events.
Max’s ability to make history entertaining and accessible has also led to collaborations with prominent brands and entertainment properties, including the feature film The King’s Man and FX’s Emmy Award-winning series Shōgun.
Max lives in Los Angeles with his husband, José, and their three cats.

"This fascinating book is a must-have for both history lovers and cooks alike. It leaves you feeling enlightened and inspired."
JOHN KANELL, author of Preppy Kitchen
"This is the perfect book for any food history fanatic (guilty as charged), or, in truth, any food fanatic. To creat a series of beautifully realized and photographed recipes that take you on a path from the earliest written clay tablets of Babylon, all the way through history to the dishes that built the Americas, is a huge undertaking. However, it is one that Max Miller achieves with all the wit, enthusiasm, accessibility, and accuracy that have made his YouTube channel such a deserved internet sensation."
